History, nature and a cobalt blue sea. These are the keynotes for a holiday in Latina. On the coast but close to the beaches is the town of Sperlonga, a lovely medieval village made up of narrow streets and houses overlooking the sea. Here you can admire the impressive cave of Tiberius where remains have been found dating back to the first century and are now kept in the National Archaeological Museum near the city.
Then there is San Felice Circeo, a well known tourist town on the coast, which consists of a medieval part located in a high position on Mount Circeo, and a modern part at the foot of the mountain called Formia, a charming town on the Gulf of Gaeta with beautiful beaches and where the ‘Roman era’ has left visible traces.
Another destination not to be missed is Gaeta, renowned for its 7 beaches and many churches, including the Church of San Giovanni by the sea, recognizable by the beautiful spherical dome in Arabic style.
Then, when the holiday ends, put a nice bottle of Aprilia Trebbiano doc in suitcase …
…to remember, with every sip, the wonders of this land.
